How to calculate Shopify net profit
Net sales = sales minus discounts and refunds, excluding collected sales tax. Net profit = net sales minus COGS, shipping, transaction fees, ad spend and other operating expenses. Net margin = net profit divided by net sales, multiplied by 100.
- Choose one reporting period and currency; deduct discounts before starting with sales.
- Reconcile refunds and costs for that period. Do not subtract a refund twice or add shipping already included in supplier costs.
- Include overhead before calling the result net profit. Keep collected tax separate from revenue and use the same tax basis for costs.
